Bedroom
What was once the main (and only!) room of this tiny seaside cottage is now transformed into a cozy and comfortable bedroom.

Many of the themes begun in the main room and kitchen are continued here.
For example, the vaulted pine ceiling and cheerful golden wall color used in the kitchen are repeated in the bedroom.

Also continued here is the warm tongue-and-groove pine flooring that is found in both the main room and the kitchen.
And in keeping with the nautical lighting theme used throughout the cottage, the authentic gimballed solid-brass lantern mounted over the bed gives this room an especially "shippy" feel.
But the outstanding feature of the bedroom, hands down, is the custom-designed and handcrafted built-in "furniture," first and foremost being the queen-size platform bed.
While its gracefully curved faux headboard lends considerable character and charm to the room, the four storage drawers underneath, two on either side, make great practical use of the limited space.
Carefully designed to match the bed are two built-in cabinet closets that at first glance appear to be free-standing armoires.
The curve of the headboard on the platform bed is echoed in the gently curved doors on each of the cabinet fronts.
Old-fashioned crown moulding helps give these new cabinets the character and style of antique furniture.
As with the kitchen and bath cabinets, the platform bed and the cabinet closets are first painted, then sanded and varnished, to give them a rich, aged patina.
Finally, space-saving pocket doors connect this snug little bedroom to the adjoining kitchen and bath.
(Do you spot the wee black kitty? That's Jeep—aka Jeepers, aka Creepers, aka Peepers, aka TROUBLE—who never misses a chance at a photo op. Guess that makes this cat a photo hound!)
