Kitchen
Like everything else in this tiny cottage, the kitchen may be on the small side but it is loaded with custom features and one-of-a-kind design elements while still being thoroughly modern and functional.

Foremost, of course, is the cabinetry. Each piece is custom-designed and handcrafted to precisely fit both the snug space and the old-house-loving bent of the owners.
The upper cabinets feature graceful curves while the apparent "feet" on the lower cabinets give them the look of antique furniture (there is a modern toe-kick on the lower cabinets but it is painted a dark color to make it "go away").
Completing the effect are the old-fashioned surface-mount hinges, cabinet latches and bin pulls, all finished in beautiful oil-rubbed bronze.
Wondering about the color selected for the kitchen cabinetry? It is a festive hue inspired by an antique Japanese glass float, a whimsical seafoam green that also sets the tone for the glass-tiled backsplash on the kitchen counters and behind the gas range.

To make this new kitchen feel more like an old cottage, the cabinets are first painted, then sanded and varnished, to give a worn and weathered look.
A matching custom-designed and handcrafted range hood completes the kitchen cabinetry.
Along with the pine ceiling and floors, the solid-maple countertops warm up this little kitchen and help tone down the painted cabinets, striking just the right balance of color and wood tones.
And notice the light on the wall next to the cabinet above the fridge. Authentic nautical lighting in heavy solid brass is used throughout the cottage—heck, nothing less will do!
A skylight, trimmed in pine to match the ceiling, and walls painted a warm golden hue make this a bright and sunny space for the cook to enjoy.
And a custom-designed solid-maple corner spice rack makes smart use of the limited space in this little galley.
Another solid-brass marine light mounted above the porcelain double sink continues the nautical theme.
Finally, an antique-reproduction faucet in oil-rubbed bronze completes the look.
