This unique period kitchen combines antique elements with modern appliances, bringing the charm of the past without sacrificing the convenience of the present.
We think the past and the present blend nicely to create a warm and seamless new "old" space!
Instead of installing a conventional range, we decided to mount an electric cooktop in an antique buffet and then insert a complementary oven, this one a modern self-cleaning convection type, into a base cabinet to its right.
Next, to continue the old-house look, we designed and installed a custom range hood, in rich warm fir.
Note also the high tiled backsplash behind the cooktop, which not only looks great but also makes for easy cleanup.
Providing yet another touch of historic charm to this kitchen is the genuine farmhouse sink set into an antique table base.
Surrounded by a ceramic-tiled countertop, the sink is flanked on the right by a dishwasher installed in a period-style beaded-board base cabinet.
Two standalone antique pieces extend the functionality as well as the visual appeal of this kitchen.
To the left of the cooktop is a large fir armoire that serves as a spacious pantry.
Situated beneath the handy pot rack is an authentic dough table.
Also called a "possum belly," the dough table provides an additional work surface as well as more storage.
Finally, custom cabinetry and beaded-board wainscoting in warm, wonderful fir make this period kitchen a truly inviting space.
The look is rounded out by a beamed ceiling, with a contrasting tiled floor and period-style lighting.
The beamed ceiling and fir wainscoting are continued into the dining room, making the kitchen and dining areas flow together as one larger space.
In the dining room are a number of special features.
First and foremost are the beautifully refinished antique fir floors.
But don't miss the charming and expansive window seat trimmed in pine and fir.
And finally, a classic arch opening onto the living room.
