So here's the new floor plan, main floor first.
We begin at the gabled front entry with its rounded-top plank
door, one of the signature elements of the vintage homes of this
style and era.
Other classic elements include the traditional fireplace (this
one "coal fired" with an arched pewter surround), flanked by
built-in bookcases, and a storybook staircase graced by a lovely
stained glass window that illuminates the landing, all in the
spacious yet intimate living room.
Gracefully curved archways, another Tudor Revival element,
connect the entry, living room and dining room, giving the
main floor a feeling of openness while still allowing each
room to retain its individual character.
The dining room features built-in cabinetry, another typical
element in early-twentieth-century homes.
With lighted glass shelving, these built-ins are the perfect
place for showcasing a collection of vintage Carnival Glass or
other special treasures.
But the real showstopper on the main floor might well be the
"Fabulous Fifties" kitchen. With its sleek retro appliances in a
snazzy mint-green color and a matching glass-tile backsplash,
this kitchen is quite a kick!
Finally, there's a full bath downstairs, a bedroom with windows
opening onto the back garden, and, outside, a deck just off the
kitchen, great for al fresco entertaining in the warm summer
months.
And it's up the stairs we go, where we find the large master
suite, the highlight of the second floor.
In the master bedroom, three large front-facing casement windows
open to beautiful views of Port Townsend Bay, with Marrowstone
Island beyond.
On the east side of the room, a cozy reading nook is also a
great vantage point for soaking up the stunning mountain and
saltwater views.
Finally, a walk-in closet provides ample room for storage, and
even has its own round window for natural illumination.
In the adjoining attic space is the private master bath featuring
a large vitreous china console sink on two front legs, a
luxurious heated whirlpool bath with subway-tiled surround, a
separate tiled shower, and extra closets in the finished attic
space for loads and loads of storage. Even the master bath has
a saltwater view from its dormer window!
Also on this floor is a second master suite, this one a somewhat
smaller version of the first, with its own private bath en suite
and equally breathtaking mountain and saltwater views. With
Whidbey Island and Glacier Peak to inspire you, this room would
also make a wonderful study or home office.
Finally, rounding out the upstairs is a centrally located
laundry center with plenty of room for your washer and dryer.
All in all, we think this floor plan is a real winner, a
comfortable and flowing interior layout to complement a classic
exterior design.
