Exterior

With its steeply pitched rooflines, rounded-top front door and rustic stone porch and path, this tidy Tudor Revival exudes English charm.

And, as with the interior of this lovely cottage, the exterior is worth a little time spent looking to fully appreciate the richness of its detail.

The 14/12 pitch of the main roof is classic Tudor Revival style but the angles are softened somewhat by the hip-on-gable ends, another classic "cottage" touch.

Contrasting nicely with the natural finish of the cedar-shingle siding is a three-tone exterior paint scheme.

This trio of colors ranges from a deep, rich gray on the window and door accent trim to a sky-blue hue on the soffit.

With its magnificent mahogany rounded-top plank door, the real star of the front façade is the gabled entry, a defining design element in this 1920s architecture.

But what would an old-world-style plank door be without its signature strap hinges? Although these are faux, they nevertheless complete the period look.

And when guests arrive and wish to ring for the resident royalty, a little white button to the left of the door tells them exactly how, with style!

Now for a closer look at the front and back gardens.

Blending with the English architecture is a rustic front porch carefully handcrafted in stone.

A stepping-stone path leads down to the crushed-stone driveway while another path winds around to the side of the house.

The stonework continues in the form of several large planters and stone-lined flower beds.

Featured in two of the planters are soon-to-be-colorful rhododendrons, not just yet in bloom.

Finally, sprinkled throughout the beds and planters is a mixture of delicate groundcovers and other small plants, specially selected for both color and texture.

When these plantings mature, what a lovely front garden this will be!

Following the crushed-stone path around the side of the cottage, we come to the back garden.

And quite a serene setting it is, with towering trees and several stone-lined planting beds just waiting for a garden artist's touch.

Peaceful, pleasant, relaxing. Just what the doctor ordered!
